Banks across India will remain closed for a total of 16 days in October, affecting regular banking operations

NEW-DELHI: In the upcoming month of October, there will be a substantial disruption in banking services, with banks closing their doors for business on 5 Sundays and 2 Saturdays, totaling 6 days. Furthermore, various holidays across different states will result in an additional 9 days of bank closures. Notably, banks in specific regions, including Agartala, Guwahati, and Kolkata, will experience a consecutive 4-day closure from October 21 to October 24 due to local festivities.

Prominent holidays affecting the banking schedule are as follows: 

October 2 - Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti
14 October - Mahalaya (Kolkata)
October 18- Kati Bihu
October 21 - Durga Puja (Saptami)
October 23 - Dussehra (Mahanaumi) / Weapons Puja / Durga Puja / Vijayadashami
October 24- Tuesday, Dussehra/Dussehra (Vijayadashmi)/Durga Puja
October 25 - Durga Puja (Dasain) (Gangtok, Jammu, Srinagar)
October 27 - Durga Puja (Dasain) (Gangtok)
28 October - Lakshmi Puja (Kolkata)
October 31 - Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Jayanti (Ahmedabad)

As the month nears its end, September 30th emerges as a crucial deadline for several essential banking tasks. Account holders in Public Provident Fund (PPF) or Sukanya Samridhi Yojana are urged to update their Aadhaar number at the post office or bank before this date. Moreover, adding a nominee to a demat account can also be completed by the end of this month. Notably, It is advised for customers to plan their banking activities in advance, considering the extended periods of bank closures in October.
