CBSE Clarifies Punjabi Will Continue as a Subject in Board Exams 2026
The board assured that all existing subjects, including Punjabi (code 004), will continue to be available for students.
Punjabi in CBSE Board Exams 2026 Latest News: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a clarification following concerns over Punjabi being omitted from the tentative Class 10 board exam schedule for 2026.
In an official circular dated February 26, 2025, CBSE stated that the draft date sheet released earlier was indicative and does not imply the removal of any subjects or languages currently offered. The board assured that all existing subjects, including Punjabi (code 004), will continue to be available for students in the 2025-26 academic session.
The clarification comes after strong objections from various stakeholders, including Punjab Education Minister Harjot Bains, who demanded the reinstatement of Punjabi in CBSE’s language offerings.
The CBSE circular, signed by Dr. Sanyam Bhardwaj, Controller of Examinations, reaffirmed that languages such as Punjabi, Russian, Nepali, Sindhi, Malayalam, Odia, Assamese, Kannada, Telugu, Arabic, and Persian will remain part of the curriculum.
This statement aims to address the growing concerns and reassure students, parents, and educators that Punjabi has not been excluded and will continue to be a part of CBSE board examinations.
