Bombay High Court Orders Release of Minor in Pune Porsche Accident Case

Bombay High Court Order on Pune Porsche Accident Case: The Bombay High Court today ordered the release of the minor accused in the Pune Porsche accident into the care of his paternal aunt. The court ruled the Juvenile Justice Board's (JJB) remand orders illegal and beyond its jurisdiction.
The minor, involved in a fatal accident on May 19, 2024, had been remanded to an observation home despite being granted bail.
The court criticized the JJB for nullifying the bail's effect and questioned its authority to remand a juvenile already on bail. The minor’s inability to attend court-ordered counseling due to mob lynching fears was also noted.
Senior Advocate Aabad Ponda argued that remanding a bailed juvenile is illegal under the Juvenile Justice Act. Public Prosecutor Hiten Venegavkar countered, citing the minor's safety and well-being with his family in custody.
The court directed that the JJB-ordered counseling sessions continue post-release. The minor's father was granted bail last week.
