Smart Commute: Kolkata Metro Ends Double Queues with Experimental QR Return Facility

The Kolkata Metro Railway has officially introduced a return ticket facility using QR codes across all its corridors to streamline passenger travel. The new service, which became operational on Saturday, allows commuters to book their round-trip journey in a single transaction, significantly reducing travel time.

According to a Metro Railway spokesperson, the primary objective of this experimental facility is to save passengers from the challenge of standing in long queues at the destination station for a return ticket.

Under the new system, commuters can purchase a return journey QR code ticket at their starting point. However, the official emphasized a key condition: the return journey must be completed on the same date as specified on the ticket. Authorities have requested passengers carefully preserve their QR tickets for the return leg of their journey.

This initiative is currently being rolled out on an experimental basis across the entire network, including the Dakshineswar-Sahid Khudiram, Howrah Maidan-Salt Lake Sector V, and Joka-Majerhat corridors.
