PAN-Aadhaar Linking Deadline 2025: Step-by-Step Guide to Avoid PAN Block
The deadline for linking PAN (Permanent Account Number) with Aadhaar is approaching, and the Government of India has clarified that this step is mandatory. If your PAN is unlinked by December 31, 2025, it will be inoperative from January 1, 2026, impacting tax filings and financial transactions.
This requirement comes under the latest directive issued by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on April 3, 2025, which asks individuals who received PAN using an Aadhaar Enrolment ID before October 1, 2024, to complete the linkage using their final Aadhaar number before year-end. An inoperative PAN can disrupt essential financial activities like tax filing, refunds, and investment transactions, so it’s a compliance step worth taking well before the last week of December.
Here’s how you can link your PAN with your Aadhaar card online, according to the Times of India:
1. Visit the official Income Tax e-filing portal.
2. Search the “Link Aadhaar” option under the Quick Links section.
3. Enter your PAN and Aadhaar numbers with your name exactly as it appears on your Aadhaar.
4. Enter your registered mobile number to receive an OTP.
5. Validate the OTP to complete the linking process.
If your PAN was issued before July 1, 2017, and hasn’t been linked earlier, you may need to pay a fee before submitting the linking request, usually through the e-Pay Tax section on the portal. Once the payment is confirmed, you can move ahead with the Aadhaar linkage.
After submission, the portal lets you check the linking status; a green tick means your PAN and Aadhaar are successfully linked. With so many people expected to rush in December, linking now will save you from avoidable stress and ensure you stay compliant with tax and financial regulations.
