J&K: Due to fresh snowfall, traffic movement from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) has come to a standstill.

In visuals shared by news agency ANI, police can be heard asking commuters not to proceed towards Srinagar and to park their vehicles along the roadside, stating that it is impossible to move further.

The authorities added that an announcement will be made to inform the public as soon as the road reopens.

Visuals show a large number of vehicles, both cars and heavy vehicles, including tankers, stuck in long queues, while rain continues to pour in the area.

Meanwhile, IndiGo airline has issued a travel advisory for passengers travelling to and from Srinagar airport, stating that fresh snowfall in the region has impacted flight operations.

The airline has advised travellers to check their flight status on its website.

The prevailing weather conditions have affected both take-offs and landings, forcing authorities to impose a temporary suspension.

“This may lead to extended wait times both onboard and on the ground,” the airline said earlier this morning in a post on X.

As per India Meteorological Department (IMD), Srinagar is likely to experience light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorm accompanied by lightning & gusty winds (40-50kmph) today.

Several shikaras at Dal Lake in Srinagar have been damaged due to winds.
