PM Slams Congress For Overlooking Northeast, Says Arunachal Got Rs 1 Lakh Crore In Last 10 Yrs

PM Slams Congress For Overlooking Northeast, Says Arunachal Got Rs 1 Lakh Crore In Last 10 Yrs: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing a gathering at the launch of projects related to energy, connectivity, and healthcare in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, stated that the state received Rs 1 lakh crore from the Centre in the last 10 years, which PM Modi claimed was 16 times more than what it got during the Congress rule.

Taking a jibe at the previous government, PM Modi stated that he knew the Northeast couldn’t be developed while sitting in Delhi and, therefore, he sent ministers and officers more frequently to the region.

PM accused the Congress party of neglecting Arunachal, citing that it has only two Lok Sabha seats, and that the negligence caused a lot of damage and left the state behind in development.

However, he said that during his prime ministership, PM Modi visited the Northeast over 70 times.

PM Narendra Modi, on Monday, laid the foundation stone and inaugurated development works in Itanagar.

He unveiled infrastructure projects worth Rs 5,125 crore in Arunachal Pradesh during the event and stated that the projects unveiled today were examples of the double benefits of a double-engine government.
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu felicitated PM Narendra Modi on the occasion.

Speaking further in his address to the gathering, Prime Minister Modi stated that from Tawang Monastery to Namsai Pagoda, Arunachal Pradesh is a land of peace and harmony.

He further accused Congress of declaring the Northeast 'backward' without carrying out any developmental works in the region due to the challenging terrain.

He said, "...One inherent habit of Congress is that they never take up development work that is difficult to be done; they abandon it. This habit of Congress caused significant harm to Arunachal Pradesh and the entire Northeast. In the hilly and forested areas, where development work was challenging, Congress would declare the regions backward and simply forget them.”

PM stated that when he became the Prime Minister, he “resolved to free the country from the mindset of Congress. Our guiding principle is not the number of votes or seats in any state, but ‘Nation First’. Our only mantra is Nagrik Devo Bhava (the citizen is God).”

“Modi worships those whom no one has ever asked about. That is why Arunachal Pradesh, which was neglected during Congress rule, has, since 2014, become a center of developmental priority,” Modi continued.

He called Arunachal the land of ‘patriotism’, adding, “Just as the first colour of the national flag is saffron, Arunachal’s first hue is also saffron. Every person here symbolises courage and represents peace.”

He noted that the districts which Congress labeled as ‘backward’ have been made ‘aspirational districts’ in Modi’s government and that development in these districts was prioritized.

“The villages at the border, which Congress called the last villages, we have recognised as the first villages of the nation. The results are visible today; new heights of development are being seen in the border villages,” PM Modi continued.

PM Narendra Modi also held an impromptu roadshow in Itanagar.
