GST 2.0 Comes Into Effect On The First Day Of Navratri. Latest News: GST 2.0, the next-generation GST reforms, come into effect from today. Yesterday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his address to the Nation, stated that the GST 2.0 would come into effect with the sunrise and on the first day of Navratri, one of India’s biggest festivals.

BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla, speaking to ANI, said that PM Modi and Nirmala Sitharaman have given a huge Diwali gift to the country before Navratri, Diwali, and Chhath Puja.

Poonawalla said, “We are celebrating this as 'Bachat Utsav'.”

According to Poonawalla, GST 2.0, the next-gen GST reforms are expected to bring down the prices of 'roti-kapda-makan'. This, he said, is beneficial to farmers.

From electronic goods to health products and from there to goods related to education, vehicles, everything is expected to become cheaper.

“So, this is a major step bringing relief to the common man, woman, children, youth, and everyone. This will not just bring down tax rates, but it will also lead to simplification because there will be just two slabs. Overall, this is a Good and Simple Tax, a formula for Great Savings and Tax low..." Poonawalla added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, yesterday, in his address to the nation, listed out food items such as medicines, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, health and life insurance among the many goods and services that would either be tax-free or attract only a 5% tax.

Prime Minister further noted that of the items previously taxed at 12%, 99%—virtually all—have now been brought under the 5% tax bracket.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings to everyone on Navratri on Monday morning. "This auspicious occasion of Navratri is very special. Along with the celebration of GST savings, the mantra of Swadeshi will receive a new energy during this time. Let us join forces to achieve our resolve for a developed and self-reliant India."
