In an Unexpected Development in Bengaluru Assault Case, New Video Shows IAF Officer Beating Attacker, Latest News:
In an unexpected development in the case involving an Indian Air Force officer allegedly assaulted in Bengaluru by a group of men, a new video has emerged showing the Wing Commander beating the attacker.
According to a report by NDTV, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Devraj D has confirmed that both sides attacked each other and clarified that the incident was not a case of Kannadigas vs non-Kannadigas, as had been claimed by the Wing Commander in a viral video.
As per the report, a counter-complaint has also been filed against the Air Force officer by the accused, identified as Vikas Kumar.
In the viral video, the Wing Commander claimed that while he was on the way to the airport from the DRDO Colony in CV Raman Nagar, Bengaluru, with his wife, Squadron Leader Madhumita, driving the car and he seated beside her, a biker stopped them and abused the couple in Kannada upon noticing the "DRDO" sticker on their vehicle. He alleged that when he stepped out of the car, the biker hit him, causing an injury to his forehead.
In the video, the officer alleged that more people joined in and began abusing them.
"I stood there, shouting, 'This is how you treat people who defend you — someone from the Army, Air Force, and Navy.' Surprisingly, more people came and started abusing us. One man picked up a stone and tried to hit my car, but it hit my head instead... this is my condition," the officer said.
"Thankfully, my wife was there to take me away, and we went to the police station to file a complaint. But there has been no response from them," he added. "This is what Karnataka has become — this is the truth, the reality. I couldn’t believe it. God help us."
He went on to warn: "God, give me the strength not to retaliate. But tomorrow, if law and order don’t help us, I will retaliate," the officer said while recording the video inside a car.
A new video that surfaced later shows both parties attacking each other — Vikas Kumar, wearing a neon green jacket, and the officer in a white shirt. Bystanders are seen intervening to stop the two, and a woman, likely the officer's wife, is also seen trying to stop the fight.
For the next few seconds, after the initial scuffle is broken up, both men appear to exchange words in what seems to be a verbal spat. In that moment, the officer suddenly charges at Vikas with punches, eventually knocking him to the ground twice. Others quickly intervene again to stop the altercation.
Squadron Leader Madhumita, wife of the Indian Air Force officer involved in the Bengaluru road rage incident, has filed a complaint with the police alleging that Vikas Kumar was riding rashly and nearly hit their car. Following this, the biker allegedly stopped the car and began abusing her and her husband, after which the altercation unfolded.
In her complaint, Madhumita stated, “I told my husband to sit in the car, but he came again and dragged him onto the road... the mob was hitting us.”
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Devaraj D said that the incident appeared to be a case of road rage that escalated into a physical altercation, with both parties attacking each other.
"An altercation broke out between the couple and a bike rider," the police said.
"When they came to the police station, the officer advised him to get first aid, as he was bleeding, and then return to file the FIR. But he was getting late and left for the airport. After he went live with the video, we found Madhumita's details and contacted the DRDO quarters. She came to the station and filed the complaint. We have now registered an FIR," the DCP told PTI.
During questioning, the accused claimed that he was merely passing by when the woman allegedly made a remark. According to him, he responded by asking, "What are you talking about?" and then approached the officer, inquiring, "What is madam saying?" An argument reportedly followed between them.
Commenting on the matter, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) said, "We have ample video evidence and will proceed with the investigation."
