Delhi CM Rekha Gupta's “Foam Free Yamuna” claim debunked; Chemical used to Supress foam every day

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s claim of a “Foam Free Yamuna” has been debunked by PeekTv journalist Priyanshi Sharma and team.

PeekTv is India’s first short-form video news network, which delivers news in 60 seconds. In one such short video news report from yesterday, the journalist gives a reality check on the Delhi Government’s ‘Foam Free Yamuna’ claim, showing highly concerning thick layers of toxic white foam floating on the river early yesterday morning, contrary to the claims of the Delhi government.

She said that the Yamuna was not actually cleaned, but rather suppressed temporarily by constant chemical spraying on the river, because of which, the river, the journalist said, looks all "good" during the day.

“We came here yesterday as well, around noon, at this very spot, and we saw that there was almost no froth, but that was because the Delhi govt. is getting a chemical sprayed from 8 am in the morning till 5-6 pm in the evening. So during the daytime, it all looks good, but as soon as the Chemical spraying stops at night, early morning, you see this layer of froth all around," explained in the video.

The video of the thick foam on the river the journalist was reporting on, she claimed, was shot at 7 in the morning. The journalist also criticized both the previous Delhi government of Kejriwal-led AAP and the current Delhi government led by CM Rekha Gupta for their failure to clean up the river.

In the visuals from the video, a few boats can be seen spraying a substance on the surface of the river amid a thick layer of toxic foam.

The Caption of the video explained, “Three weeks ago, before the Chhath Pooja, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta claimed the Yamuna river in Delhi is completely ‘froth-free’. The government released videos showing a froth-free Yamuna this year and compared it with the thick layers of toxic white foam under the AAP government.”

“Peek TV’s reality check found that the Yamuna froth wasn’t actually cleaned up, it was only suppressed temporarily by constant chemical spraying on the river. Even three weeks after Chhath, the government is getting the same chemical sprayed throughout the day to make the river look clean,” the caption of the video read.

Our team went on the ground early in the morning, when the chemical isn’t sprayed, to reveal the true toxic state of the Yamuna,” it added.

In the comment section, people have expressed concern for the safety of the journalist for exposing the failure and double standards of the government, while others saluted her courage.

The exposé raises questions on the accountability, transparency, and honesty of the government, in which its people have placed their complete faith.

The suppression of the data and truth poses a great threat to the health of the poor who live by the river, the negligent rich who happen to come in contact with the water one way or the other, and, let alone, animals.
