Court Extends Relief to Accused Sushil Kumar, Orders Strict Monitoring During Bail Period
NEW-DELHI: In a recent development, wrestler Sushil Kumar, the primary accused in the Sagar Dhankhar murder case, has been granted one week of interim bail by the court to undergo a necessary knee surgery. Sushil Kumar, along with other co-accused, is currently facing trial in connection with the tragic murder of fellow wrestler Sagar Dhankhar. The court's decision comes in response to an application filed by the accused, seeking temporary bail on the grounds of medical treatment. The scheduled surgery is slated to take place on July 26.
The Additional Sessions Judge of Rohini District Court has extended interim bail to Sushil Kumar for the period from July 23 to July 30, solely for the purpose of his impending surgery. The court has ordered his release on a policy bond of one lakh rupees, along with two sureties of the same amount.
As per the court's directives, Sushil Kumar is required to surrender himself before the jail administration on July 30, following the completion of his surgery. In light of threats and concerns raised by witnesses, the court has mandated the deployment of two security personnel to monitor the accused round-the-clock during the interim bail period. The responsibility for bearing the costs of these security personnel will rest with the accused's family.
The court's decision to grant interim bail to Sushil Kumar was influenced by the medical report submitted by both the jail administration and the investigating officer. The court noted that the medical documents indicated a recommendation for Sushil Kumar's admission to the BLK Max Super Specialist Hospital on July 24, 2023, with the surgery scheduled for July 26.
