New Delhi: Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan will soon take over as the Chairman of the Executive Board of the World Health Organization (WHO). According to the WHO, Harsh Vardhan, who is playing a key role in the fight against corona in India, could take over on May 22.

The WHO of the Southeast Asia Group unanimously decided last year that India would be elected to the executive board for three years.

Last year, it was decided that India's candidate would be the chairman of the executive board for the first year starting Friday (May 22). "It's not a full-time responsibility," an official said and the Minister will only be required to preside over the meetings of the Executive Board.

The Executive Board will have 34 members, technically from the health sector. The board meets at least twice a year and the main meeting is usually in January.
