NEW-DELHI: In a Significant Proposal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggested renaming the iconic old parliament building to 'Samvidhan Sadan' (Constitution House) after both Houses shift to the new building. He made this announcement during an event held at the Central Hall, marking a celebration of the illustrious heritage of the Indian Parliament, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. The PM said that the dignity of the building where Parliament sessions have been held for the last 75 years should not decline by simply calling it as the old building.

Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of preserving the prestige and history associated with the old parliament building as the nation progresses towards a new edifice. He conveyed that the name, "Old Parliament," might not befit the grandeur and the democratic essence ingrained within the structure. Hence, he recommended christening it 'Samvidhan Sadan.'

The Event witnessed the gathering of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members within the historic Central Hall of the old Parliament House, underscoring the reverence and respect for this symbolic location. Notably, Soon after Prime Ministers's speech, PM Modi and all the MPs walked from the old building to the new building. All MPs got a gift hamper containing a copy of the Constitution, books, a commemorative coin and a stamp on the opening day of the new Parliament building.
