The Congress targeted the BJP regime in Rajasthan, saying the interests of women and their safety were being "neglected" by the government led by a woman chief minister. "The BJP made many promises in the last Assembly elections, but the government did not fulfill after coming to power," the party's national spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi said. She attacked the state government over crime against women, including rape.

"The state ranked 5th in the country in overall crime against women for the period of 2014-16, while it stands at 4th position among all states in terms of a number of rape cases reported during the same period," she told reporters at the party office here. She said that more than 100 farmers committed suicide in the BJP-ruled state. Chaturvedi said that corruption was rampant in the state which is facing misrule and financial mismanagement under the Vasundhara Raje-led government.

She was on a two-day visit to the city to conduct interviews for the appointment of the party spokespersons to take on political opponents in the poll-bound state. Chaturvedi denied claims by some candidates that they were asked to comment on the leadership of RPCC chief Sachin Pilot and former chief minister Ashok Gehlot. "This is baseless. No such question was asked from the candidates," she said.
