Six Ukrainians and one American Detained by NIA; matter now in court, says MEA
“There are certain areas which are restricted in India, and there are certain protected areas."
Six Ukrainians and one American citizen were detained by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) last week. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on Thursday said the matter is now in court.
“There are certain areas which are restricted in India, and there are certain protected areas. So for those areas, you need permission to travel there, and whether they were in possession of this particular permission or not, it is now in the court,” Jaiswal said.
“It will be presented, and thereafter, we'll come to know... I understand that they may want certain documents for travelling to that part of India...” he added.
A Times of India report, citing sources, said the accused had entered India on valid visas; however had proceeded to Mizoram without the mandatory Restricted Area Permit.
