Rahul Gandhi: ECI Gyanesh Kumar Is Protecting People Behind Alleged Vote Chori, 18 Letters No Answer
“This is not something I am saying lightly,” Rahul Gandhi said.
Rahul Gandhi: ECI Gyanesh Kumar Is Protecting People Behind Alleged Vote Chori, Latest News: Rahul Gandhi on Thursday made strong allegations against the Chief Election Commissioner of India, Gyanesh Kumar, saying Kumar has the answer to who is behind the alleged vote theft and that he is protecting the people who have destroyed Indian democracy.
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, in a PowerPoint presentation on Thursday, presented how vote thefts are carried out in the country and how it was allegedly carried out in Aland, Karnataka, in particular.
“This is not something I am saying lightly,” Rahul Gandhi said.
He claimed that he figured out how vote thefts were carried out and the method by which voters are being added and deleted.
“In election after election, someone, some force, some group of people, have been systematically targeting millions of voters for deletion across India,” LoP Rahul Gandhi alleged, adding that this was something he and his team heard repeatedly from different communities, especially the communities such as Dalits, Adivasis, minorities, and OBCs who vote for the opposition and are specifically targeted.
Rahul said he and his team had heard such incidents of vote theft many times and claimed that now he has 100% proof of the ‘theft’.
“I am not going to say anything on this stage that is not backed up by 100% proof,” Rahul claimed, adding, “I am somebody who loves my country, I love my Constitution, I love the democratic process, and I am protecting that process. So, I am not going to say anything here that is not going to be based on 100% proof that you can determine. The judgment is yours. I am going to lay proof in front of you.”
Alleged Vote Scam in Aland, a constituency in Karnataka
“In Aland, Karnataka, ‘Someone’ tried to delete 6,018 voters. And they were caught by coincidence,” Rahul Gandhi claimed.
Rahul alleged that in Aland, Karnataka, someone tried to delete 6,018 votes.
“We don’t know the total number of votes deleted in Aland in the 2023 election. They are much higher than 6,018. But somebody got caught deleting the 6,018 votes. And it was caught like most crimes—by coincidence.”
He explained that a booth-level officer there noticed that her uncle’s vote was deleted, and when the officer checked who deleted it, it turned out to be her neighbor.
However, when she asked the neighbor, the neighbor denied it.
“Neither did the person deleting the vote know nor did the person whose vote got deleted know,” Rahul said.
“Some other force hijacked the process and deleted the vote,” he alleged.
Rahul Gandhi went on to say that ‘Someone’ has set up a ‘centralized criminal operation to steal elections’ and that in Aland, under the operation, 6,018 deletion applications were filed by ‘impersonating voters’ using ‘automated filing of online EC forms, mobile numbers from outside Karnataka, and targeting Congress voters.’
Rahul Gandhi claimed that nobody filed those applications for voter deletion and that the filings were done automatically, using software.
Explaining the operation further, he said, “People who filed these applications actually never filed them. I will show you the evidence. The filing was done automatically, using software. We will show you that.”
“Mobile numbers from outside Karnataka, from different states, were used to delete and it was done to target Congress voters. So, this was not random, these deletions were specifically targeting booths where the Congress party was winning,” Rahul further claimed.
Rahul Gandhi gave a few examples of how the vote chori was allegedly being carried out and put forth an example of an elderly woman named Godavari.
He said, “‘Someone’ created fake logins in Godabai’s name to delete 12 voters and attempted to delete them, and then this was stopped.”
Eample 1: An Elderly Woman’s name Allegedly Used to Delete Voters in Aland
He said Godabai had no idea. Godabai, in a statement as shared in the PowerPoint presentation today, said, “During the election, I have not filed any deletion application. I have no connection with it. I have no idea who has done it.”
As per the data shown in Rahul’s presentation, Godabai is a 63-year-old elderly citizen from Aland, Karnataka assembly, Booth number 37.
Rahul Gandhi also shared the cell phone numbers from different states used to allegedly delete 12 neighbors.
Example 2:
In another example, Rahul claimed that a person named ‘Suryakand’ deleted 12 voters in 14 minutes—but the person had no idea about it.
Rahul called Suryakand, along with the woman whose name was being deleted, on the stage where he was doing the presentation.
“12 voters have been deleted in my name, however I have no idea of it. Neither have I sent anyone any message nor have I called anyone. It was actually from Babita that I came to know about it,” Suryakand said.
Example 3:
In another example, a person named Nagaraj filled two applications and submitted them within 36 seconds, which Rahul said was ‘humanly impossible.’
“Try and fill these forms and see how long it takes,” Rahul said.
“Also notice what time this gentleman (Nagaraj) has filled the forms. For some reason, he gets up at 4:07 in the morning and suddenly fills two forms.”
Rahul said that these were being done not by individuals but using software. He said applicants are always serial number 1, and serial number 1 means that this is the first name in the booth.
“Therefore, a software is picking up the first name in the booth and using it to delete voters,” he said.
“Someone” ran an automated program that ensured the first voter of the booth was the applicant and that the same person got cell phones from outside the state and used them to file the applications. “We are pretty certain that this was done in a centralized manner. This was not done at a workers’ level but rather done at a call center,” Rahul Gandhi alleged.
He further stated that it targeted deletions in strong Congress booths and that the top 10 booths with maximum deletions were Congress strongholds where Congress won 8 out of the 10 booths in 2018.
Rahul said it was not a coincidence but a planned operation.
Rahul Explains the direct accusation against CEC Gyanesh Kumar
Explaining why he was making such a direct accusation against CEC Gyanesh Kumar, Rahul said, “There is an ongoing investigation on this matter in Karnataka. The CID has sent in 18 letters in 18 months to the Election Commission of India.”
Rahul said that the CID asked the ECI the destination IPs from where these forms were filled, device destination ports from which these applications were filed, and for the OTP trails.
“Because if you file, you have to get an OTP,” Rahul said.
However, the ECI has not given a proper response, according to Rahul, stating that if the ECI gives proper answers, it will reveal who was behind those alleged thefts.
“We are absolutely convinced where this is going to lead,” he said.
Chronology of Karnataka’s CID’s 18 letters to the Election Commission of India:
Rahul explained the CID’s request to the ECI in the matter chronologically. According to him, in February 2023 an FIR was filed and Karnataka wrote to the ECI in March, requesting all details of these numbers and these transactions. In August 2023, the ECI gave a reply; however, it did not fulfill any of the demands. In January 2024, Karnataka CID wrote to the ECI again, requesting full information, and CID got no answer. The last letter Karnataka CID sent to the ECI was in September 2025.
While these were going on, the CEC Karnataka wrote to the Election Commission in Delhi, requesting the information, and CEC Karnataka wrote multiple times but got no answer, Rahul said.
“This is absolute solid proof that Gyanesh Kumar is protecting the people behind all this. This is also absolute solid proof that this is being done in a centralized manner.”
Who is the ‘Someone’?
Rahul Gandhi alleged that the ECI knows exactly who all these people are and who that alleged ‘someone’ is.
“They are defending the murderers of our democracy by not giving the names of the people behind vote chori. The CEC of India is not telling the CID of Karnataka who is doing this.”
Rahul said this is not an isolated case and he went on to give similar examples of alleged vote theft from Maharashtra, Rajura.
Election Commission of India's Response
The Election Commission of India called the allegations made by Rahul Gandhi are 'incorrect and baseless'.
