“No One Missing”: Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital Averts Major Disaster After Fire

A fire broke out at the multi-speciality block of Government Medical College Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram earlier this morning. A suspected short circuit in a machine is believed to be the preliminary cause of the incident, according to news agency ANI.

Former MLA Kadakampally Surendran arrived at the incident site and confirmed that the fire has been brought under control.

“I spoke with the patients. Both the patients and the hospital have escaped a major disaster,” he said, adding that timely and effective intervention took place immediately after the fire broke out.

Patients were evacuated from the emergency ward and shifted to safer locations inside the hospital, ANI added.

“No one is missing. Inspections have been carried out everywhere. I spoke to the Health Minister. As soon as the incident was reported, the Minister instructed the concerned senior officials to reach the spot,” he further said.

Citing hospital authorities, the report added that the situation is currently under control and further checks are being carried out.

The incident came to light one day after a major fire at the trauma care ICU of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, Odisha, on Monday morning, which killed 10 patients and left 11 others injured.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced ex gratia for the families of the deceased and for those injured in the incident.
