Biometric Aadhaar authentication (eKYC) not required for all LPG consumers: Govt
The ministry further stated that the requirement of eKYC applies only to those LPG consumers who have not done eKYC so far.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on Tuesday clarified that biometric Aadhaar authentication (eKYC) is required only for LPG consumers who have not completed the process yet, and not for all customers.
“Some news reports have been circulating on the issue of biometric aadhaar authentication for LPG consumers,” the ministry said in a statement, adding, “In this regard it's clarified that THIS IS NOT A FRESH DIRECTION. The recent post by the ministry is a part of the ongoing efforts of the Government to encourage more LPG consumers to complete biometric aadhaar authentication.”
The ministry further stated that the requirement of eKYC applies only to those LPG consumers who have not done eKYC so far.
“If you are a non-PMUY customer and have done it before, you don't need to do it again,” the statement read.
PMUY customers need to complete eKYC only once every financial year, and that too only for receiving targeted DBT subsidies after seven refills that is, on the 8th and 9th refill, according to the ministry.
eKYC can be completed easily from home and is free of cost. “eKYC ensures transparency, establishes clear eligibility, weeds out ghost consumers and discourages diversion of LPG,” it added.
The ministry also emphasized that the supply of LPG refills is “not affected in any case.”
