Chhath Puja 2023

Chhath Puja 2023: As the festive fervor takes hold, Chhath Puja 2023 is set to unfold with joyous celebrations across the nation. This much-anticipated festival, deeply rooted in traditions, is an extravaganza of devotion and gratitude. Primarily observed in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and certain parts of Nepal, Chhath Puja spans four days, each marked by unique rituals and fervent prayers to the Sun God.

Date and Shubh Muhurat:

The inaugural day, Nahaye Khaye, falls on November 17 this year. According to Drik Panchang, the auspicious sunrise will bless the day at 6:45 AM, while the sunset is slated for 17:47 PM on the same day.

What is Nahaye Khaye?

Nahaye Khaye, translated as "Bathing and Eating," kicks off the Chhath Puja festivities. Devotees rise with the sun, embarking on a spiritual journey to the Ganga River for a purifying bath. Post this cleansing ritual, homes are meticulously cleaned and adorned, creating a sanctified space for the upcoming celebrations. Fasting is a key element of this day, with devotees consuming a single meal. As they return from the Ganges, a sacred water offering is transformed into a meal prepared without contamination. The initial consumption is reserved for the fasting individual, followed by sharing with family members.

Nahaye Khaye holds profound significance, symbolizing purification and cleansing. The early morning bath and meticulous cleaning represent the commencement of the festival's preparations. Following Nahaye Khaye, devotees engage in subsequent rituals such as Lohanda, Kharna, Sandhya Arghya, and Usha Arghya, each contributing to the holistic celebration of Chhath Puja.

Why Chhath Puja is Celebrated?

Chhath Puja is celebrated to express gratitude to the Sun God for the bounties of prosperity, longevity, and wealth bestowed upon devotees. The four-day extravaganza unfolds as a series of devotional offerings and acts of thanksgiving, encapsulating the cultural richness and spiritual fervor associated with this revered festival.

As the nation eagerly awaits the commencement of Chhath Puja, Nahaye Khaye marks the beginning of a spiritually charged celebration, inviting devotees to immerse themselves in the timeless traditions of this cherished festival.
