No Toxic Foam on Yamuna in Delhi; Chhath Devotees to Offer Prayers Safely: CM Rekha Gupta: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Minister Kapil Mishra inspected preparations for the upcoming Chhath festival at Kalindi Kunj Chhath Ghat on the Yamuna River. The CM stated that efforts have significantly reduced toxic foam on the river, ensuring devotees can offer prayers safely, News Agency ANI reported.
Addressing the media at the riverbank, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said, “This is the same place where toxic foam used to float on the Yamuna, forcing Chhath devotees to offer prayers amid pollution. Under the BJP government, we see no toxic foam, and the water is flowing clean.”
She added, “Grand preparations are underway for the Chhath festival. Residents of Delhi will not have to face toxic foam this time. I have come here to show the reality. This Chhath and Diwali will be grand.”
The CM also warned the public to be cautious about old videos of the Yamuna being circulated, stating, “Today, the Yamuna is cleaner, clearer, and more beautiful than before. We have seen no foam buildup.”
Highlighting government measures, she said, “Over 25,000-35,000 metric tons of silt were removed from Delhi’s drains, which would have eventually ended up in the Yamuna. We began construction of new STPs and upgraded old ones across every drain. As a result, the BOD levels have improved, and work is ongoing to further enhance water quality.”
She claimed that aquatic life can now flourish in the river, though she admitted that more work remains. “We have tried to do more than what could have been done in six months, and we have done it honestly,” she said.
Meanwhile, small patches of foam were still visible on the surface of the river.
