Officers transferred out not allowed to be posted in election-related posts in West Bengal: EC
The directions have been ordered to be implemented with immediate effect.
The Election Commission of India on Monday issued an order directing the transfer of several police officers of West Bengal ahead of the General Election to the Legislative Assembly of the state.
The order was issued after reviewing the poll preparedness for the General Election to the Legislative Assembly, the letter said.
DG & IGP (In-charge), DG, ADG & IGP (Law & Order), and the Commissioner of Kolkata Police have been transferred.
The direction stated that Siddh Nath Gupta (IPS-1992) be posted as DG & IGP, Government of West Bengal (In-charge), and Natarajan Ramesh Babu (IPS-1991) as DG, Correctional Services.
Similarly, Ajay Mukund Ranade (IPS-1995) has been posted as ADG & IGP (Law & Order), Government of West Bengal, and Ajay Kumar Nand (IPS-1996) has been posted as Commissioner, Kolkata Police.
The directions have been ordered to be implemented with immediate effect, and a compliance report regarding the joining of the officers is to be sent by 03:00 PM on March 16, 2026.
Further, the officers transferred out have been directed not to be posted in any election-related posts until the completion of the elections.
Additionally, in a major administrative reshuffle, the EC has also transferred the Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary of the state.
Dushyant Nariala (IAS–1993) has been posted as the new Chief Secretary, Government of West Bengal, and Sanghamitra Ghosh (IAS–1997) as the Principal Secretary, Home and Hill Affairs, Government of West Bengal.
A similar compliance report regarding the joining of the officers has been ordered to be submitted by 03:00 PM on 16.03.2026.
The order also states that officers transferred out should not be posted in any election-related posts until the completion of the elections.
