Cuttack Hospital Fire: PM Modi announces ex-gratia for kin of 10 deceased, injured; speaks to Odisha CM
The Chief Minister has also ordered a judicial probe into the incident.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of those who lost their lives in a major fire incident at the trauma care ICU of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, Odisha, on Monday morning.
The Prime Minister also announced Rs 50,000 each for those injured in the incident.
As per reports, ten patients died, while 11 hospital staff members suffered burn injuries while rescuing patients.
The fire incident took place between 2:30 am and 3:00 am in the ward where critically ill patients were being treated.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, along with Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling, visited the hospital shortly after the incident and announced Rs 25 lakh compensation for the families of those who died.
The Chief Minister has also ordered a judicial probe into the incident.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known at the time of filing this report.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing concern over the incident, spoke to the Chief Minister over the telephone, the CM said.
The Chief Minister stated that he informed the Prime Minister about the emergency measures being taken for all those affected, the evacuation process, and the specialised medical services being provided.
“I have also provided information about the high-level inter-departmental inquiry directed by the state government,” the Chief Minister said in a post on his X.
“At this sensitive time, I am grateful to him for his compassionate concern and assurance of necessary assistance,” he added.
