Army commander dedicates new canteen complex

Lieutenant General Surinder Singh GOC-in-C Western Command dedicated a new, state of the art Unit Run Canteen (URC) Complex in Sector 29D, Chandigarh to the serving & retired personnel of the Armed Forces residing in Chandigarh. The URC was till now operating in a makeshift complex in hired building from Punjab & UT Govt at Punjab Sainik Bhawan & Sainik Rest House, Chandigarh on the busy roads of Sector 21D and Sector 22 and visited by 700 veterans on daily basis. Seizing the problem of traffic issues in the area and also the need for a permanent premises the Army shifted the said URC to the new Army Complex at Sectoe 29 D.

This new URC complex fulfills the long standing demand of Army personnel, veterans & their families residing in Chandigarh as a one stop shop for their grocery & utility item needs besides being co-located with the ECHS hospital. With installation of bio-metric identification system, the entry is strictly restricted to the authorized personnel only. The new complex will benefit nearly 1200 veterans and families of Army personnel deployed in J&K and other border areas. A large number of retired Army officers, jawans and families gathered to witness the inauguration of URC Complex in Sector 29D.
