JK CM Omar Abdullah Cancels Cultural Events On Independence Day After Cloud Burst Latest News 

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Thursday evening, in light of the tragedy caused by the cloud burst in a village in Kishtwar district, announced the cancellations of cultural events during the morning Independence Day celebrations tomorrow.  

Taking to X, he wrote, “In light of the tragedy caused by the cloud burst in Kishtwar, I have taken the decision to cancel the 'At Home' tea party tomorrow evening. We have also decided not to go ahead with the cultural events during the morning Independence Day celebrations.”

However, he said, the formal events - speech, march past etc, will go ahead as planned.

Thirty bodies have been recovered from the devastating incident that unfolded this morning in the village, Chasoti, which is the last motorable road en route to Machail Mata yatra in the district, according to PTI, which cited officials.

Earlier, J&K CM, Omar Abdullah, spoke to Union Home Minister Amit Shah about the developing situation in the Kishtwar region of Jammu, he informed in a social media post.

He added, “The news is grim & accurate, verified information from the area hit by the cloud burst is slow in arriving. All possible resources are being mobilised from within & beyond J&K to manage the rescue operations. I’m not going to be speaking to channels or news agencies. The government will share information as & when possible.”

Rescue and search operations are underway.
