30 killed in cloudburst hit Chashoti village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district latest news:
As a massive cloudburst hit Chashoti, a village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar, leaving many injured and several dead, JKNC chief Farooq Abdullah urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take the issue of global warming ‘very seriously’.
Talking to the media on the flash flood in the Chashoti area, Farooq Abdullah said, "I would like to tell the Prime Minister to take the issue of global warming very seriously. This has become very common in hilly areas. One or the other method will have to be looked for to overcome this. So, I appeal to him to think in this hour of grief about how this can be remedied."
Dr. Yudhveer Singh Kotwal, Medical Superintendent of the district hospital, says, "According to the latest updates, 28 patients have been referred to the hospital so far, and nine more are on the way. We are making all necessary arrangements…".
Calling the incident ‘very unfortunate’, he said, “Cloudbursts have become a routine in our mountain areas. You saw this in Uttarakhand; you saw the damage there. It happened in Ramban last year. This time, it happened on the route of Machail Mata Yatra. Lakhs of people undertake this Yatra...”
“We hope that IAF helicopters can go there and retrieve the injured. Villages and the temple area have suffered damage...Rescue operation is underway...We hope that the death toll is not very high..." he added.
According to PTI’s latest updates, thirty bodies have been recovered from the cloudburst strikes. It said citing officials. The death toll could go up, as the rescue and search operations are underway.
Chashoti village is the last road en route to Machail Mata yatra in the district and when the incident occurred, the annual yatra was underway. Following the incident, the authorities have suspended the yatra.
