Farmers protest 2024 at Shambhu border

Farmers Protest 2024, Shambhu Border Update: Over 200 farmer unions started marching towards the national capital as a part of their 'Delhi Chalo' call on Tuesday. However, they were stopped at the Shambhu border where the police had blocked the roads with spikes and barricades. In the meantime, the police resorted to tear gas shells and even water cannons at the protesters to disperse them.

The action has begun against the farmers moving towards Delhi for Farmers' protest 2.0. The police fired tear gas shells at the farmers moving towards Delhi from the Shambhu border of Punjab-Haryana, after which a situation of stampede was created and a ruckus started. Notably, police and security forces have pushed the protesting farmers back by 200 meters. Security forces have been deployed in large numbers while the road has been blocked with concrete walls, nails and spikes.

Punjab Police allowed the farmers who had set out to March to Delhi to proceed without any hindrance, after which they marched through Haryana's Ambala Highway and reached the Shambhu border of Punjab and Haryana. However, the Haryana Police had blocked the roads with huge concrete barricades, which the farmers were preparing to cross. During this, the police fired tear gas shells at the protesting farmers at the Shambhu border of Ambala and a stampede broke out.

The incident turned out to be a chaos in which over 61 farmers were reportedly injured and taken to the nearby hospitals. Likewise, the farmers announced ceasefire and spent the night near the Shambhu border only.

The organizations who are part of the farmers' protest 2.0 include Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Samiti of Sarwan Singh Pandher, Bharatiya Kisan Union Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Bharatiya Kisan Union General Singh and Bharatiya Kisan Union Ekta, Progressive Farmer Front of Azad Dilbagh Singh and Gurmannit Singh.
