BJP, Congress Launch Attack Against TMC After Footballer Messi's Event Turns Chaotic in West Bengal

Messi India Tour Today: Both the state Congress and the BJP, on Saturday, strongly criticised the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government following the chaotic aftermath of star footballer Lionel Messi’s visit to Salt Lake Stadium in West Bengal.

West Bengal BJP President and MP Samik Bhattacharya held the TMC responsible for what he called a "black spot" on Indian football.

Speaking to the media, Bhattacharya said, "TMC has lost its mental balance...The chaos today at the Messi event is a black spot on Indian football. Today is a black day. TMC is responsible for this massacre. Messi was surrounded by TMC leaders...”

He further added, “This was a TMC program, and it was meant to loot the public...This was an organised scam of TMC..."

Echoing similar sentiments, West Bengal Congress President Subhankar Sarkar demanded accountability from the state government for the “tarnished image” of Bengal.

Speaking to the media, Sarkar said, "The administrative structure of the Bengal government has collapsed. The government has no control over it. The government must take responsibility for the tarnished image of Bengal across the world today...”

He further added, “Why such mismanagement when an internationally renowned player arrives? The government and the sports ministry should take responsibility for this..."

Widespread chaos was witnessed at the stadium following the event, during which the footballer reportedly stayed for only 10 minutes and was surrounded by VIPs, leaving a large number of fans disappointed.

Following the event, many attendees demanded refunds, citing poor management and calling it a “scam.” Anguish fans threw bottles and chairs on the ground and vandalised the property.

Meanwhile, the main event organizer has been arrested.

Messi is now scheduled to visit the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad this evening. Fans waiting to get a glimpse of the footballer expressed their gratitude, saying Messi still decided to continue his tour even after the West Bengal event.
