Police detain Rahul Gandhi, other Congress MPs during protest over ECI's ‘Vote Chori

Leader of Opposition in Lower House and congress MP Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi and other MPs from INDIA bloc have been detained by Delhi Police on Monday during their protest march against the Election Commission over Special Intensive Revision in Bihar, ahead of election later this year, and over the allegations of ‘Vote Chori‘ during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the ANI reported.
According to the report, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut, TMC MP Sagarika Ghose, and other MPs were also among those detained by the police today.
All detainees were taken to the Parliament Street Police Station in a bus.
Rahul Gandhi, as quoted in the report, said that the fight was not political but a fight to save the constitution.
“This fight is for One Man, One Vote. We want a clean, Pure voters list,” Rahul said.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav was seen leaping over barricades as police stopped the protestors from marching to the office of the Election Commission of India.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, NCP SCP chief Sharad Pawar also joined the protest.
The report stated that the protest began from the Makkar Dwar of the Parliament, led by Rahul Gandhi, to urge the EC to address their concerns on the alleged “voter theft”.
Delhi police stated that the protestors did not get permission for the march.
Meanwhile, BJP leader and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of allegedly working against the constitution.
