This year’s awards include 21 women and 11 people from foreigner, NRI, PIO, OCI categories and one transgender

Padma Awards Conferred

56 of 112 personalities chosen for the Padma awards this year were conferred awards on Monday. These awards are given under three categories, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. These are the highest civilian awards after Bharat Ratna.
Veteran journalist, Kuldip Nayar was conferred Padma Bhushan this year, posthumously. His wfe, bharti Nayar received the award on his behalf. SAD leader Sardar Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa was one among those receiving Padma Bhushan.

The others awarded Padma Bhushan were Malayalam actor Mohanlal, BJP leader Hukumdev Narayan Yadav. Prominent personalities awarded Padma Shri include director/actor Prabhu Deva, Music Director Shankar Mahadevan and late actor Kader Khan posthumously, for their contributions in the field of Art.

Wrestler Bajrang Punia, Indian Kabaddi team’s captain Ajay Thakur, table tennis player Sharath Kamal and grandmaster Harika Dronavalli were honoured for their contributions in the field of sports. This year, four Padma Vibhushan, 14 Padma Bhushan and 94 Padma Shri awards are to be conferred. The remaining recipients are likely to be honoured at another function to be held later this month.
