Nepali Jail Escapee Caught at India Nepal Border, Security stepped up along the border Latest News: As prisoners escaped from a jail in Nepal, intelligence and security measures have been intensified along the India-Nepal border to prevent the fugitives from sneaking into Indian territory, news agency ANI reported citing top officials.
The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), which guards India’s 1,751 km-long border with Nepal, has enhanced checks at all entry points. The report added that special focus is being placed on verifying the identity cards of individuals crossing into India, as jail escapees are unlikely to carry valid documents.
As part of the move, 26 mutual routes, 15 traffic routes, six integrated check-posts, and 11 border check-posts have been placed on high alert, the news agency said citing an official.
The official further said that the SSB’s intelligence wing is also actively monitoring border villages to prevent infiltration and the spread of misinformation.
SSB personnel have already apprehended five prisoners who, according to the ANI report, had escaped from a jail in Nepal and were attempting to enter India. The five escapees were caught along the India-Nepal border in Uttar Pradesh’s Siddharthnagar district.
They were later handed over to the local police. Officials stated that the situation at the border is under control and that precautionary measures have been taken to deal with any untoward situation.
