PM Modi Welcomes the First Phase of President Trump's Peace Plan for Israel and Hamas Latest News: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has welcomed the agreement on the first phase of President Trump's peace plan for Israel and Hamas.
“This is also a reflection of the strong leadership of PM Netanyahu,” PM Modi said in a post on X.
Prime Minister Modi expressed hope for the release of hostages and stated that enhanced humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza will bring respite to them and pave the way for lasting peace.
Israel’s Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, appreciated India’s support all along.
In a post on X, Reuven Azar said, “Thankful for the efforts of the Israeli delegation and all involved in reaching the agreement that will release all our hostages. Special thanks to POTUS Trump. May we see peace restored soon, free from terror threats. Appreciate India’s support all along!”
US President Donald Trump, early Thursday (9 October), announced that both Israel and Hamas have signed off on the first phase of a ‘Peace Plan’.
Under this phase, hostages will be released, and Israel will withdraw its troops to an agreed-upon line, Trump said.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also welcomed the announcement of the agreement to secure a ceasefire and hostage release in Gaza, based on the proposal put forward by Donald Trump.
He commended the diplomatic efforts of the United States, Qatar, Egypt, and Türkiye in brokering this desperately needed breakthrough. He urged the release of all hostages in a dignified manner and called for a permanent ceasefire.
He also called for the unhindered entry of humanitarian supplies and essential commercial materials into Gaza.
Antonio Guterres assured that the United Nations will support the full implementation of the agreement, scale up the delivery of sustained and principled humanitarian relief, and advance recovery and reconstruction efforts in Gaza.

“The stakes have never been higher,” he added.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the deal a “diplomatic success and a national and moral victory for the State of Israel.”
He stated that with the approval of the first phase of the plan, all their hostages will be brought home.
