Uttam Nagar murder case: Seven, including minor, arrested; case invoked under SC/ST Act

Uttam Nagar murder case updates: A total of seven individuals have been arrested so far in connection with the alleged murder case in Uttam Nagar, and the investigation is ongoing, police confirmed on Sunday afternoon.

According to DCP Dwarka, Delhi, Kushal Pal Singh, the arrested suspects include a minor who was apprehended earlier, while one additional suspect was taken into custody on Sunday. All the accused are residents.

The DCP further confirmed that based on statements from the victim’s family and available witnesses, provisions under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 have been added to the case.

He added that the investigation is continuing, with authorities focusing on maintaining peace in the area.

The officer further stated that the latest arrest was made after verifying the family’s statements and witness accounts, adding that any further suspects identified during the investigation will also be arrested.

In the murder case of a 26-year-old man during Holi celebrations in Delhi on March 4, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) carried out bulldozer action against the property of one of the accused.

The action came after Rekha Gupta, the Chief Minister of Delhi, warned of strict action in the matter in a post on X on Saturday.

During the operation, the alleged illegal portion of the accused’s three-storey building was demolished using bulldozers, amid heavy deployment of security forces at the site.

The 26-year-old victim died in a clash between the family and the neighbours in the JJ Colony area on Holi.

The incident took place around 11 PM, according to the victim’s father.

DCP Dwarka Kushal Pal Singh confirmed that information about the clash was received around 11 PM, following which additional staff, including the Special Staff and local police, rushed to the spot.

A total of eight people were injured in the clash, the DCP said.

“It was found that a clash had taken place between two communities, in which three people from one side and five from the other were injured. The injured were taken to the hospital through PCR vehicles and ambulances,” the officer said.

Most of the injured were discharged the same night. However, the victim remained admitted to the hospital and later succumbed to his injuries during treatment on the afternoon of March 5, the officer confirmed.

Initially, a case was registered under Section 308 of the Indian Penal Code. After the victim’s death, the murder charge was added to the case.
