During the visit yesterday, PM Modi also addressed the Indian community at a community celebration attended by PM Ibrahim.
In his address, PM Modi noted that over 100 Indian IT companies operate in Malaysia, generating thousands of jobs, and announced that India’s UPI will be available in Malaysia soon.
“When we met in 2015, I spoke to you about India’s potential. Now, I speak to you about India’s performance. In one decade, India has seen a massive transformation,” PM Modi said.
He noted that in 2015 India was the 11th largest economy in the world and that now “we are knocking on the doors of the Top 3.”

PM Modi also spoke about India’s Digital Public Infrastructure and fintech ecosystem, calling them the largest in the world.
Speaking about investment in India and trade agreements with major economies, he said, “Earlier, India was seen just as a huge market. Now, we are a hub for investment and trade. India is seen as a trusted partner for growth. Whether it is the UK, UAE, Australia, New Zealand, Oman, the EU or USA, countries have trade deals with India. Trust has become India’s strongest currency.”
India has recently extended OCI card eligibility to Malaysian citizens of Indian origin up to the sixth generation.
PM Modi also announced that a new Consulate of India will be opened in Malaysia soon, noting that it would bring the two countries closer.
