It added that the rally also featured smaller vintage vehicles, post-war classics, and cars from other cities.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Sunday flagged off the 59th edition of the Statesman Vintage and Classic Car Rally, a decades-old tradition showcasing India’s rich automotive history.
The rally began at 10 am from Statesman House on Barakhamba Road and featured some of the oldest and most elegant vehicles in the country.
It is one of India’s oldest automobile events, having been held for the first time in Delhi in 1964 and later introduced in Kolkata in 1968, according to a report by The Statesman.
As per the report, over the decades, the event has evolved into a celebration of engineering excellence and design. Automobile enthusiasts preserve vehicles from decades past and showcase them to the public during the rally.
This year, over 100 vintage and classic cars participated in the event. The lineup included a 1936 Rolls-Royce, a 1926 Studebaker Erskine, a 1906 Renault Frères, a 1938 Mercedes, a 1937 Wolseley, a 1932 Baby Austin, a 1919 Citroën Torpedo, and a 1914 John Morris fire engine from the Rail Museum, the report said.
It added that the rally also featured smaller vintage vehicles, post-war classics, and cars from other cities.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar, speaking to the media at the event, said more such programs should be held in Delhi. He congratulated The Statesman and its entire team for organising the "beautiful event".
