AAP Delegation Meets EC, Raises Concerns Over Simultaneous SIR and Zila Panchayat Polls in Goa

A delegation of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday met the Election Commission to question its decision to conduct the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list and the Zila Panchayat elections in Goa simultaneously.

Delhi Legislative Assembly Leader of Opposition Atishi told ANI, “Today, our meeting with the Election Commission was regarding the SIR process taking place in Goa.”

She stated that the SIR process has begun in Goa, and the draft roll will be released on December 9, adding, “But what concerns us greatly is that during this time, district panchayat elections are also happening in Goa. The district panchayat election is on December 13, and its reservation announcement was made today. “

“In two or three days, the Model Code of Conduct will come into effect. Naturally, when elections are underway, the entire machinery of all political parties becomes involved in the election process and campaign. No political party will have the time to monitor or oversee the SIR process... Therefore, it is a matter of concern as to why both these processes, the Special Intensive Revision and the district panchayat elections, are being conducted simultaneously in Goa,” she added.
