Awe-Inspiring Lunar Footage: Chandrayaan-3's First Glimpse of Moon's Blue-Green Pits Amazes Space Enthusiasts

Chandrayaan-3 Mission

NEW-DELHI: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has shared a captivating video of the moon, captured by the Chandrayaan-3 mission during its entry into lunar orbit. The space agency released the video on social media platform Twitter, titling it "The Moon, as viewed by #Chandrayaan3 spacecraft during Lunar Orbit Insertion (LOI) on August 5, 2023."

In the stunning footage, several pits of blue-green color can be observed on the lunar surface, offering a remarkable view of the moon's terrain. The video was unveiled just hours before the second major activity, scheduled to take place late on Sunday night.

Chandrayaan-3, launched from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh on July 14, embarked on its lunar journey after successfully completing five orbits around Earth. On Saturday, the mission achieved a significant milestone as it completed Lunar Orbit Insertion (LOI), marking its entry into the lunar orbit.

Now in lunar orbit, the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft is set to undertake four orbits around the moon before it prepares for its descent towards the lunar surface. The mission has planned to land on the moon's surface on August 23, pending the successful execution of the remaining stages. Additionally, the Chandrayaan 2 orbiter, still orbiting the Moon, will serve as a backup relay if required.

The successful progress of Chandrayaan-3 signifies India's continuous strides in space exploration, showcasing the nation's scientific and technological capabilities. With each milestone achieved, ISRO brings the world closer to unraveling the mysteries of our celestial neighbor.
