New Education Policy-2020: Strategy to Suppress Punjabi, Urdu and other languages in Delhi

NEW-DELHI: The Game of Suppressing the Punjabi language has been played at the government level in Delhi from time to time, but the existence of the Punjabi language has survived due to the efforts of Punjabi well-wishers. The Arvind Kejriwal government of Delhi has started the preparation to suppress the Punjabi language at the school level under the name of replacing it with 'vocational' subject. As per the new orders, there will be no seat for the teachers of Punjabi and other languages in schools.

It is worth noting here that not only Punjabi, but Urdu, Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu and other languages will also come under this order because the vocational subject will be taught in place of the language subjects. With this, the subject of dialects will reach the number 7, which has been made an optional subject, i.e. whether the child studies or not, the marks of the respective subject will not be included in the result (ie CGPA). Himanshu Gupta, Director, Education Department, Government of Delhi, on March 1 through order number PSD/DE/2023/46, has ordered the government schools to ensure that in the academic year 2023-24, the ninth and tenth classes Students should be registered in vocational subject.

After this order, an instruction has been given to implement the vocational subjects by referring to the new education policy-2020. With this order, the vocational subject has been made an equal subject to English, Hindi, Science, Social Science and Mathematics. As the 7th subject, the student will not bear the burden of reading the subject of Punjabi and other dialects as an additional subject, because it is not clear that its number will be included in the result or not.
