PM Modi Congratulates Amul and IFFCO for Top Positions in Global Cooperative Rankings

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated India’s leading cooperatives—Amul and IFFCO—for securing the first and second positions globally among the world’s top cooperatives. The recognition remarks India’s growing strength in the cooperative movement and its role in rural economic empowerment.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi expressed pride and called it an example of the “vibrant and transformative cooperative sector” of India. “Congratulations to Amul and IFFCO. India’s cooperative sector is vibrant and transforming several lives.The government is taking numerous steps to further encourage this sector in the times to come,” he added.

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah also congratulated them on this remarkable achievement and appreciated the efforts of women and farmers who have taken Amul and IFFCO to global models of self-reliance and empowerment. Shah said, “This success is a testament to the boundless potential of India’s cooperatives, which are becoming a global model of empowerment under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership.”

The recognition of “Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (Amul)” and the “Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative (IFFCO)” highlights India’s leadership in farmer-led, inclusive growth. Both organisations are the core of the country’s rural economy — Amul revolutionised the dairy industry by empowering millions of farmers, while IFFCO has been instrumental in ensuring sustainable agricultural productivity.

India today is “world’s largest milk producer”, with its dairy and cooperative sectors serving as key pillars of “rural livelihoods, women’s participation,and scientific innovation. The government’s continued focus on cooperative reforms, digital transformation, and grassroots empowerment focuses on further boosting this momentum.

This milestone is not only a celebration of Amul and IFFCO’s global achievement but also a reinforcement of India’s vision of a Self-reliant, cooperative-driven rural economy
