India to conduct Mock Drills, following Pahalgam terror attack, latest news: Mock drills will be conducted on May 7, 2025, across 244 civil defence districts in several states as tensions between India and Pakistan escalate following the Pahalgam terror attack.

A mock drill is a practice exercise conducted to prepare people for real-life emergency situations.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has directed states to carry out these drills to evaluate civil defence preparedness.
Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan is scheduled to hold a video conference with Chief Secretaries of all states on May 6 to discuss the upcoming civil defence mock drill.

The mock drill directive comes in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives. The attack has been linked to Pakistan, leading to heightened tensions between the two nations.

According to NewsOnAir, the primary aim of the mock drill is to assess the efficiency of air raid warning systems, operationalise hotline or radio communication links with the Indian Air Force, and test the functionality of control rooms.

The drills will also involve training civilians and students on how to protect themselves during hostile attacks, checking blackout measures, camouflaging key infrastructure, and rehearsing evacuation plans.

This will be the first time such civil defence mock drills are being conducted nationwide since the 1971 India-Pakistan war.
