In some of the cases, the children were found missing for or kidnapped 10-12 years ago. In some cases, the technique of DNA profiling was done to establish true parentage of the child, said Vijay Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West).

The AHTU staff traced 54 children, who had been found staying in different shelters and children homes, between March 2017 and April 2018, the officer said. The children hailed from various states, including West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi.  "Of them, seven were missing for more than 10 years, six for more than five years, and 12 for more than two years," the police officer said.
