Kartik Purnima 2025: A Spiritual Reminder for Light Within

Kartik Purnima is one of the most sacred days in the Hindu calendar, observed on the full moon of the Kartik month.

It is also known as Dev Diwali. This year, Kartik Purnima is on Wednesday,November 5,2025 ,when devotees will worship with lamps on the ghats of sacred rivers.

Importance of Kartik Purnima

The day symbolises many divine moments for devotees all across India. For Lord Shiva’s devotees, it is a reminder of his victory as Tripurantaka, when he destroyed the three demon cities of Tripura—a story that symbolises the victory of wisdom over ignorance and ego.

For devotees of Lord Vishnu, it commemorates the appearance of Lord Vishnu's first Avatar as the Matsya Avatar, the divine fish. The festival is also about the completion of the holy Tulasi Vivah, the sacred marriage of Tulasi Devi and Lord Vishnu.

Kartik Purnima Celebrations

At dawn, devotees perform the Kartik Snan, bathing in rivers such as the Ganga or Yamuna, a ritual for cleansing of both body and mind. At dusk, Deep Daan happens with millions of diyas illuminating temples, courtyards, and riversides; it is meant to awaken the divine light within.

This festival includes fasting, chanting, meditation and acts of charity and service, such as helping the needy people with food, clothing, etc. A reminder for devotees that true devotion is more focused on compassion rather than performing rituals.

Kartik Purnima 2025 is not just a festival of light but an annual reminder for self-reflection, for moving inward—toward the divine within.
