On April 19, Atwal resigned from the primary membership of the Akali Dal

NEW-DELHI: Senior leader of Shiromani Akali Dal in Punjab and former Speaker of Vidhan Sabha, Charanjit Singh Atwal has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. BJP National President J.P. Nadda gave him party membership at Delhi BJP headquarters. His son Inder Iqbal had already joined the BJP. Supporting his son's wish, Charanjit Singh Atwal also bid farewell to the Akali Dal and joined the saffron party. Atwal has also been the former Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha.

It is worth mentioning here that on April 19, Atwal resigned from the primary membership of the Akali Dal. Charanjit Singh Atwal was born on 15 March 1937, he was also the Deputy Speaker of the 14th Lok Sabha of India from 2004 to 2009.

Notably, Atwal represented the Phillaur constituency of Punjab in the 14th Lok Sabha and was a member of the Shiromani Akali Dal. He was also the speaker of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha twice. It is worth mentioning here that Charanjit Singh's son Inder Iqbal Singh Atwal along with many other colleagues from Punjab joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in New Delhi on Sunday. He was formally inducted into the BJP in the presence of senior BJP leaders at the party's national headquarters in the National capital on Sunday.
