Landslide Breaks Hemkund Sahib Bridge latest news: A Landslide was experienced near Govindghat in Chamoli district on Wednesday morning, which greatly damaged the Govindghat-Hemkund Sahib bridge.
Sandeep Tiwari, Chamoli District Magistrate, said that at around 10 am, there was a landslide that destroyed the Public Works Department (PWD) bridge and the road was left cut off.
The landslide has also interrupted motor connectivity to Pulna village and left dozens of vehicles on the opposite side of the Alaknanda River.
SDRF, PWD, and district administration teams have reached the area to conduct damage assessment and supply basic commodities and facilities to the affected villages, including Pulna and Bhyundar.
The accident has created alarm for next season's pilgrimage, with the gates of the Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara opening on May 25. Attempts are being made to establish contact and restore the safety of the residents.
