TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee Resigns as Party's Chief Whip in Lok Sabha Latest News

Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee resigned from his position as the party's Chief Whip in the Lok Sabha on Monday, according to reports by PTI and News18 Bengali.

According to News18 Bengali, The resignation follows a virtual meeting held by TMC leader Mamata Banerjee with the party’s Members of Parliament (MPs) earlier that day. Sources indicated that Mamata Banerjee expressed dissatisfaction with the party's performance in the Lok Sabha.

Further the report stated that TMC's Lok Sabha leader, Sudip Bandyopadhyay, has been absent for an extended period, and MP Sougata Roy is also unwell, which may have contributed to the decision. Despite Kalyan Banerjee holding the position of Chief Whip, Mamata Banerjee has now entrusted Abhishek Banerjee, along with Deputy Leader Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, with the responsibility of overseeing the party’s affairs in the Lok Sabha.

In addition, Mamata Banerjee stated that in the future, issues such as the Special Interest Rate (SIR) and the Bengali identity will be key focal points for the TMC's political agenda in Delhi, the report added.
