Rape and Murder Convict Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Granted 40-Day Parole

Rape and murder convict Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the chief of Dera Sacha Sauda, has been granted a 40-day parole, marking his 14th temporary release since his conviction in 2017, according to news reports.

Rahim Singh is currently serving a 20-year jail term at Sunaria Jail in Rohtak, Haryana.

The latest parole comes approximately five months after he was granted parole in August 2025. According to a report by Hindustan Times, earlier in January 2025, Gurmeet Ram Rahim was granted a 30-day parole, followed by a 21-day furlough in April, along with multiple other temporary releases around the Delhi Assembly elections.

In 2019, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and three others were also convicted for the murder of a journalist more than 16 years ago and were sentenced to life imprisonment.

He was convicted of rape on August 25, 2017, and sentenced to 20 years in prison for raping two of his disciples.

During previous paroles, Singh stayed at the Dera’s ashram in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat district.
