Technical Details Being Inked: Goyal Promises Joint Statement on US Trade Deal Shortly
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced on Tuesday that a joint statement on the India-US trade deal will be issued shortly after technical details are inked. The Minister emphasized that India's national interests have been fully protected in the agreement, which US Ambassador Sergio Gor described as a deal with "limitless possibilities."
According to Minister Goyal, all sensitive sectors, specifically agriculture and dairy, have been safeguarded to ensure that all segments of Indian society benefit. He dismissed concerns raised by the Congress regarding US President Donald Trump announcing the deal first, clarifying that since the US had originally imposed the reciprocal tariffs, it was natural for Washington to announce the move to reduce them.
The Minister criticized the Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, for disruptions in Parliament that prevented the government from making a formal statement on the deal within either of the two Houses.
Goyal said that the constant disruptions by leaders of the SP, TMC, and DMK forced him to brief the public outside. He reiterated that the deal will unlock vast opportunities for various sectors without compromising India's interests. The final joint statement will be released as soon as the technical processes and official understanding are completed.
