Sonam Wangchuk Detained at Singhu Border Latest News Today: The Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi condemned the detention of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk and his supporters by Delhi Police at the Singhu border on Tuesday, calling the move "unacceptable."
Sonam Wangchuk and hundreds of Ladakhis were peacefully marching to demand environmental and constitutional rights.
In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi directly held Prime Minister Narendra Modi accountable for the detentions. "Why are elderly citizens being detained at Delhi's border for standing up for Ladakh's future? Modi ji, as with the farmers, this 'Chakravyuh' will be broken, and so will your arrogance. You will have to listen to Ladakh's voice," Gandhi stated.
Wangchuk, alongside 150 padyatris, was detained on Monday night. He took to social media to share his plight, stating that elderly men and women, some in their 80s, as well as Army veterans, were detained while on a peaceful march to Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial.
The march, which began in Leh on September 1, is aimed at urging the government to include Ladakh in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, granting local law-making powers to protect the region's land and cultural identity.
