Rail Ticket Price Hike 2025: Patna to Delhi Route

Starting July 1, 2025, Indian Railways has implemented a significant fare hike for railway commuters. This change affects mail and express trains and will directly impact passengers traveling long distances. Routes like Delhi–Patna are among the most affected, with travelers now having to pay more than before.

According to the railway department, fares for AC coaches have increased by 2 paise per kilometer, while fares for non-AC mail and express trains have gone up by 1 paisa per kilometer. The longer the journey, the more noticeable the increase will be. However, there is no change in fares for local and passenger trains.

The distance between Patna and Delhi is approximately 1000 kilometers, so the impact of this fare hike is clearly visible on this route. Traveling on popular trains such as the Rajdhani Express, Sampoorna Kranti, Vikramshila, and Poorva Express has now become slightly more expensive. For instance, on the Sampoorna Kranti Express, the sleeper class fare has risen from 510 rupees to 520 rupees, third AC from 1350 rupees to 1370 rupees, and second AC from 1920 rupees to 1940 rupees. In the case of the Rajdhani Express, third AC fares have gone up from 2410 rupees to 2430 rupees, while second AC fares have increased from 3290 rupees to 3310 rupees.

There is some relief for passengers traveling shorter distances. The railways have clarified that no fare hike has been applied for journeys up to 500 kilometers. Local and suburban trains, as well as monthly pass holders, will not see any increase in fares. Passengers traveling in second class for distances under 500 kilometers will also be spared. However, for distances beyond 500 kilometers, an additional charge of one paisa per every two kilometers will be applied.

According to the railways, this is a minimal increase and has been introduced due to rising maintenance costs, staff expenses, and fuel prices. This fare revision comes after many years and applies only to long-distance mail and express trains.

So, if you’re planning to travel on long-distance trains like the Rajdhani Express or Sampoorna Kranti, you may have to pay a few rupees more than before. It’s advisable to check the updated fares before booking your ticket.
