Election Commission of India Conducts Extended Meetings with Parties Across the Country latest news: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has held a series of meetings with political parties in the country at different levels, namely Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), District Election Officers (DEOs), and Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs). From March 4 to March 31, 2025, a total of 4,719 meetings were organized, including 40 by CEOs, 800 by DEOs, and 3,879 by EROs. More than 28,000 political party representatives attended these meetings.
These conferences were convened pursuant to directions made in the Chief Electoral Officers' Conference of March 4-5, 2025, conducted at IIIDEM, New Delhi, chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Shri Gianesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi.
The move is to settle outstanding issues under the legal provisions of the Representation of the People Acts of 1950 and 1951, the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, and the Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961. The ECI has sought action reports from all union territories and states to enforce compliance. Any outstanding issues within the current legal provisions will be referred to the Commission for settlement.
The sessions have attracted eager support from political parties, demonstrating energetic and dynamic involvement at the constituency, district, and state levels.
