Recent events are its "trailer": Kapil Sibal
NEW-DELHI: Rajya Sabha member Kapil Sibal on Saturday (April 1) alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is planning to incite communal violence ahead of the 2024 general elections, citing incidents in West Bengal and Gujarat. He said, "Recent events are its 'trailer'."
Violent clashes broke out between two groups during Shobha Yatra on Ram Navami in West Bengal's Howrah city on Thursday. Both BJP and Trinamool Congress (TMC) have accused each other over this. On the occasion of Ram Navami, there were reports of violence from Gujarat and Maharashtra as well.
Sibal tweeted, "As we approach 2024..For the BJP On the table :1) communal violence 2) hate speech 3) baiting minorities 4) target opposition by use of ED, CBI, election commission. Trailer : Burning of Bengal Stoking communal violence in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat."
It is worth mentioning here that Sibal, who was a Union Minister in the first and second term of the UPA government, left the Congress in May last year and was elected to the Rajya Sabha as an independent member with the support of the Samajwadi Party.
